To keep your smile in good health, get into a routine of brushing and flossing your teeth. You should brush twice a day and floss once a day. Your toothbrush should have soft, rounded-ended bristles. Replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Use fluoride toothpaste. Place your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle where the teeth meet the gums. Pressing firmly, gently rock the brush using a circular motion. Do not scrub, as this can cause the gums to pull away from the teeth and can scratch tooth enamel. Brush all surfaces of your teeth, paying special attention to the front and back teeth. Brush your tongue from back to front. When flossing, gently work the floss between the teeth toward the gums. Curve the floss around each tooth and gently floss under the gum line. Move the floss up and down several times to remove plaque.
